Take the nice salary out of the equation and most people will openly admit that they really aren’t as happy in their jobs or careers as they may initially claim to be. The simple question is this – if it were somehow possible that you would get the exact same salary you get right now, except you don’t have to wake up to go to the job you’re currently doing, would you still get up in the morning, rush to get all cleaned up, have breakfast and then fight through traffic to get to work?

If the answer is no, then you need to seriously start looking at what it is you’re doing with your life, as comfortable as you may be in your job and as comfortable as the life your job may afford you. I’m not suggesting you take a radical step, quit your job and then flood my inbox asking “what next” here, far from it. What I am suggesting is that you look deep inside yourself and at the very least get the thought process rolling, honestly questioning yourself as to whether or not this was the life you really saw yourself living when your dreams were forming. Sure, dreams change and reality does have to set in at some or other stage along this journey called life, but most of us are really nothing but errand-people who have to be somewhere at a certain time every day, and if we don’t make it to work in time for a few days too many, we’ll end up losing our jobs.

This is why you need to pursue a path along which you try to find your own specialty, even if it means developing a new one from scratch.

It’s really not as difficult as it may seem as it just starts with getting the thought process going. Ideally, you want to develop your speciality around something you’re really passionate about and if you work hard and long enough at developing and pursuing this specialty, some paths through which to make the transition from your current dead-end job to carving out a new career out of your speciality will eventually get revealed to you.

It’s really quite a shame how you can go to an electronics shop or a specialist photography shop and see all that specialist, high-end equipment just sitting there, going to waste, when you know what miracles a super talented photographer could work if they got their hands on a Nikon 7100, for example, yet there are so many such talented photographers who may not even know just how talented they are.

It all comes down to this – you need to develop your own speciality so that you can enjoy your time on earth infinitely more. There are few greater joys in the world than that of being able to wake up in the morning, do what you love and still be able to earn some good money while doing so. That way, you’ll never work another day in your life and yet still be able to provide for you and yours.
