According to pub retailer and brewer Greene King, the average British household spent approximately £211 on leisure activities in October 2016. I think that’s a little excessive, so I’ve come up with five things you can do for less than a fiver.

Play Online Bingo

In the same Greene King survey, respondents apparently spent £12.85 throughout October at casinos and online bingo sites, but you don’t need to spend anymore than £5 to have a good time.

Unfortunately, not every bingo brand allows you to make a deposit of anything less than £10, but there a few special cases that have all the games you love without the extortionate deposit rates. One of these sites is mFortune, where players are not only able to deposit anything from £3, they will also receive a £5 no deposit bonus just for registering on the desktop and mobile bingo site. Plus, since there’s a 100% first deposit match bonus, so you could end up with £15 to play with just by registering and depositing a fiver.

I love a good bargain, so we love the idea of buying clothes and household accessories for £5 or less? Clearly, there are a lot of like-minded people on the Internet as there are dozens of sites dedicated to fantastic finds under a fiver.

One of my favourite sites is the Tumblr account fiverfun, which is completely dedicated to items on Amazon that cost less than £5. Whether you’re looking for gifts, big brands or weird one-offs, there’s sure to be something to keep you entertained on sale. Another option for anyone looking to buy a new wardrobe at just £5 a piece is Everything5Pounds.com, where – you guessed it – everything is just £5.

Upgrade Your Home

If you’re looking to do something a little more productive, why not upgrade your home? Your home is your sanctuary, and it deserves to have a little bit of money and effort put into it every so often, even if it is just a fiver.

With one pot of paint you could repaint your front door, your kitchen cabinets, your window frames or any old pieces of furniture that are looking a little bit drab. After just one cheap trip to Homebase or B&M, you could change your drawer handles, add a shelf in your bedroom for extra storage or create a picture wall. Simply take a look around you home and see what could be updated a little – chances are you’ll find a couple of things you’d like to change.

Get Cooking

The fact that food can be so expensive and yet we need to eat to survive is somewhat inconvenient, so I am eternally grateful to the geniuses behind online recipe websites with sections dedicated to meals that can be concocted for less than £5.

All Recipes for instance, is home to well over one hundred recipes than cost just a few quid. From wholesome toad in the hole to marvellous Mexican dishes and delicious deserts, All Recipes ensures that you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy cooking. Another useful site, goodtoknow.co.uk has an interesting article dedicated to meals costing just £1 a head, so if you’re looking to cook a meal for the entire family for under a fiver that’s definitely the site to visit.

Buy Services

Now, before you jump to any conclusions let me explain. Since the site’s launch back in 2011, fivesquid has become a leading online marketplace where freelancers, students and companies can trade skill-based services with others.

Whether you would like to have someone write a blog piece, improve your social media following, record a professional voiceover, create an illustration or review something for you, chances are you can purchase someone’s services for just £5. Alternatively, if you’d like to make £5 or more and you have a tradable skill, then you may want to consider registering so you can make a little extra crash.

So, even if you don’t have two notes to rub together at least you know you can have a fun, productive time using the power of the Internet. Spend your fiver well and let me know if you have any other ideas I could add to this list!
