Halogen ovens have gained popularity in recent years, and for good reason. As long as you have a power outlet available, you can use a halogen oven to cook food much faster and more efficiently. They aren’t just a great choice for using at home, but they also offer an unmatched level of portability. Halogen ovens combine the speed of microwave cooking with the quality of a conventional oven and they achieve this by heating a filament in a tube full of halogen gas.
The lamp inside a halogen oven becomes very hot very quickly. The resulting heat cooks food in the same manner as a conventional oven, but it does so much more quickly and efficiently. At first it almost seems too good to be true; an oven which is portable and compact and yet outperforms its bigger siblings, and yet this is exactly the case. Filled Pitta Bread
This is a perfect meal choice for a light and healthy lunch with enough room for customisation and personalisation that you and your kids can tailor to your individual tastes. You will need the following;
- 4 x pitta bread
- 300 g ham
- 300 g cheddar cheese
- 250 g of mushrooms
- 2 tomatoes
- 1 onion
You can customise the filling however you like, vegetarians will obviously want to replace the ham, and there are a number of vegetarian or vegan alternatives. Once you have gathered all the ingredients for your filling you should dice them up, add a little pinch salt for taste if you are so inclined, and then simply fill the pitta bread with the other ingredients. Cover them with foil and cook in a halogen oven for 25 minutes at a temperature of 200 C.
Many people overlook pasta and spaghetti when cooking with their halogen oven, but it handles both of these things very well. You will need;
- 500g minced beef
- 125g button mushrooms
- 1 clove of garlic
- 2 x beef stock cubes
- 1 onion
- Jar of spaghetti sauce
- Fresh Spaghetti
First of all, you want to crush the garlic, chop up the onion, and cut the mushrooms. Take everything except the spaghetti and the sauce and heat it for 7 minutes at 240 C, stirring halfway through.
Once the mince has browned, remove it carefully and drain the liquid. Then place the spaghetti in the bowl and top it with the mince, and Bolognese. Heat for a further 10 minutes at 240 C and serve.
Halogen ovens are excellent for baking bread and kids will love the taste of homemade bread. There are a number of variations on bread recipes that you can try, this makes for a good starting point. Remember that bread doesn’t have to be boring, you can spice it up (literally) in a number of different ways.
