You might think that paper bags are kind of an outdated option for carrying your child’s packed lunch, and, in many ways, you’re right. Over time, plastic lunchboxes have been used more and more, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they make the best choice. In fact, there are plenty of reasons to go back to basics and use paper bags instead.

  1. More Eco-Friendly

From an environmental point of view, it only makes sense to use plastic when the item in question is going to be used for a long time to come. Unfortunately, children grow up fast. Even if they don’t quickly grow out of the kid’s characters that adorn their lunchboxes, they will quickly find themselves not needing them anymore. Additionally, kids tend to throw their bags around a lot, which means plenty of plastic lunchboxes end up broken. This means they will be sent to landfill. Paper bags are a lot eco-friendlier since they can be easily recycled.

  1. An Easier Fit

Every parent knows how hard it can be to squeeze everything into a kid’s backpack. From sports kit to pencil case to text books, there’s quite a lot that needs to go inside, and a plastic lunchbox can prove to be the straw that broke the camel’s back. While lunchboxes are heavy and occupy a lot of space, paper bags are light and flexible, so they don’t take up nearly as much room.

  1. Simpler to Personalize

You might think that it’s easier to tell one lunchbox apart from another than to tell one paper bag lunch apart from another since the former are branded, usually with characters from TV shows or films. The problem is that kids tend to gravitate to the same designs, so there could be a few children in your kid’s class using the same kind of lunchbox. With a paper bag, you can quickly and easily write your child’s name, or even add a few little drawings to cheer them up.
